Great photos. Include a variety of photos that show how you like to spend your time. …
Taking it One Step at a Time
Like most things in life, a little patience in online dating goes a long way. It’s understandable that daters may be keen to meet that special someone, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of dialogue.
Unlike more “traditional” ways of connecting, online daters have the advantage of reading a profile in advance of meeting face-to-face. …
A Photo is Worth a Thousand Words
If a photo is worth a thousand words, absence of one says nothing at all. It’s no coincidence then, that dating profiles with photos are more than 10 times more likely to get responses than those without. So, if you’re serious about getting noticed online, good photographs are a must.

Do your Online Dating Homework
A Google search for dating sites returns tons of options, with more emerging what seems daily. Whether you’d like to find a mate based on race, religion, interests, age, there is a specialized dating site for almost anything you can imagine. Because of the sheer volume of choices, it’s important to do your homework before signing up for a site, in order to ensure you’re reaching the most viable matches.

Spring Clean your Online Dating Profile
‘Tis the season for spring-cleaning. Much like your garage, home or car, your online dating profile could use a periodic refresh as well.
Lots of online daters write one profile - breathing a sigh of relief once it’s complete - never to return to it again. But, revising your profile to include new relevant information can make all the difference in getting you noticed.

It's Not (Always) You
Online dating can be tough, what with the competition, the volume of sites and all the distractions of life in between. It’s easy to get disappointed if the guy or girl you’ve messaged doesn’t respond. But remember, it’s not always you.
Here are some things to keep in mind if your online dating profile isn’t getting the response you’d hoped:

If Facebook Says So...
Do we really need Facebook’s “It’s Complicated” category to inform us that relationships can be so? Why would anyone choose this option and how does the “complicated” other half feel about this admission?
With that, there are five other relationship categories from which Facebook users can choose: single, in a relationship, engaged, married, and in an open relationship. …
Truth in Advertising…Yourself
You know that excitement you feel when you buy the latest gadget from that late night infomercial convinced it will shed weight miraculously without exercise? Then, BOOM. You quickly discover it doesn’t actually melt away the pounds. How do you feel? Deceived? Disappointed?
The truth is, presenting yourself online is not much different from presenting a product. …
To Text or Not to Text
That is the question. I recently attended a session hosted in Toronto as part of Social Media Week called “Love in the Digital Age” (how perfect, I know). The panel was composed of twenty and thirty-something men and women - a mix of journalists, relationship experts and advertising gurus.

Things Men Look for in an Online Profile

Whether you’re new to online dating or want to improve your chances of getting noticed, the ladies out there should consider things that men look for in a dating profile before pressing the "save" button.
Great photos. Include a variety of photos that show how you like to spend your time. Make sure to choose photos of yourself doing a variety of activities. This will show different aspects of your personality and…wardrobe! Aim for a casual, formal, sporty, outdoorsy, close ups and full body shots. Variety is key!
Hobbies. In hand with your photos, describe some of your hobbies. It doesn’t have to be an exhaustive list, but enough to give someone a sense of what you consider fun. Again, a little variety goes a long way.
Positivity. If a guy approached you in a bar, would you tell him that “you’re sick of the bar scene”? Then don’t do it online. People want to spend time in the company of those with a great outlook on life. By expressing doubt or frustration about online dating you paint yourself as negative, so don’t do it.
Wish list. Have you always wanted to travel to Australia? Zipline in Costa Rica? Run a marathon? Include some of your bucket list items in your profile. Don’t be afraid to think big. It will show your imagination and go a long way to spicing up your profile.
